A 2-year-old female eagle that was found in the Johnston Central Landfill is making a slow recovery.
On Friday, Liz Vaughn a part-time clinic staff member with the Wildlife Rehabilitators Association of Rhode Island who are overseeing the care of the bird said that the bird is "looking better," and behaving "perkier" and "peppier."
On Thursday a volunteer veterinarian said the bird had taken a turn for the worse. "We are not getting over confident but she is making very slow progress in the right direction," said Vaughn.
The bird has been affectionately named Eleanora by one of the veterinarians, Dr. Meredith Bird.
Vaughn says the staff does not typically name the wildlife but in this unique circumstance they have made an exception.
On Thursday X-Rays revealed the bird to have been shot with three "buck shots." The bird was treated for lead poisoning and the staff continues to await the full blood work results.
