Rhode Island's unemployment rate dropped to 10.2% in the month of December.
The December numbers, down 2 tenths of a percentage point since November, mark the lowest unemployment rate for Rhode Islanders since March of 2009.
Over the month of Dec. the number of employed residents grew by 2,200 and Rhode Island based jobs increased by 1,200 with the largest gains in Professional & Business Services.
The current rate of 10.2% is down eight tenth of a percentage since Dec. 2011, however, the rate remains high above the national average of 1.8%. Nationally the average remained stagnant from Nov. to Dec.
