Three robbers are still on the loose after tying up a man on Arbor Drive in Providence and stealing his car right out of the driveway. A similar break-in happened just around the block last week, putting the Elmhurst neighborhood on edge.
Police say 63-year-old Berndt Anderson came upon one robber sifting through his belongings and when he tried to confront him, two other men appeared. They tied up Anderson using an electrical cord and black tape as they stole his TV, cash and car.
Anderson was able to break free and call police. When his neighbor, Gary Spencer, drove up to see cop cars, he immediately ran in to check his home only to find the robbers broke in there too. Spencer says they smashed a window and took his Playstation, cash and car rims.
Neighbors were taking precautions Tuesday night, especially because a similar break-in happened less than a mile away last week. Three men tied up and robbed a 21-year-old woman on Pembroke Street. Police still do not know if the break-ins are connected. So far there have been no arrests.
