A Westerly mother got the flu shot back in September, but she got the flu anyway,
To make matters worse, She's trying to care for her new–born.
Eva Sawyer is upset and miserable. She's has a newborn baby girl, McKenzie. She's wearing a mask. She says, "I've had a 103.2 fever for 3 days." Little McKenzie, born on December the 21st, has had limited contact with her Mom because of the flu.Her sister has come from Boston to help her do the things ,she can't do . Eva says, I'm very worried that every one in my house is going to get sick, my children are going to get sick and they've had the flu vaccine"
Health director Dr.Michael Fine of the Rhode Island Department of Health says, it's still important to get the flu vaccine because, you cut your chances of getting the flu, in half. He says,
"The strain is in the vaccine,so the strain is likely to be protective against this flu, but in order for the vaccine to be protective, you have to get it"
All Eva can do now is to protect her child,She's thinking about sending her new–born to her grandparents house. She says,"I don't want to live without my child."
Eva is on the mend. She's hoping she will get well soon. She's looking forward to taking care of her baby, without a mask.
