More than 75-gallons of home heating oil spilled out, onto a yard in Ashaway, on Tuesday night.
The homeowners called the Ashaway Fire Department after smelling gas and detecting a leak in their 275-gallon, outdoor home heating oil tank.
Firefighters were able to clean-up most of the spill using special absorbent wipes.
The homeowners are working with the Rhode Island DEM to make sure the spill is properly cleaned-up and will make sure that the soil tainted by the spilt oil is either removed or cleansed, to make sure it doesn't contaminate the surrounding ground.
