BURRILLVILLE, R.I. - A mechanic was found dead Saturday morning by one of his customers who came to check on the progress of her car repairs.
Police say mechanic James Cash, 47, of Burrillville, died after the minivan he was working on fell on top of him. He was found Saturday by a woman who came by to check on her car repairs; when she saw his feet protruding out from underneath the van, she dialed 911.
When police arrived, they quickly determined that Cash was deceased. They say he was likely killed instantly when the pumpjack he had used to raise the vehicle flipped into the wheel well of the van, causing the minivan to drop onto him.
Police say Cash did not secure any safety blocking in his apparatus to prevent injury.
