The first serious storm of the winter season is here, dropping big white flakes of snow, across New England.
Just as it does every-year, the first storm, made people go out to prepare for winter in earnest.
People spend the day stocking up on shovels and ice melt, so that they could do battle with Mother Nature.
Julie Lyons from Cranston went to Benny's, to get what she needed.
"Just buying ice melt for my driveway. It's pretty steep."
Lyons wasn't alone. Pawtucket resident John Walsh also hit up Benny's for some ice melt.
"It's just normal procedure for the winter here, so you got to go get some ice melt, so people don't fall down."
Grocery stores were also packed with shoppers who were getting the essentials.
Already did the whole Rhode Island thing. Got plenty of milk and plenty of bread." said North Providence's Richard Nicolo.
This storm, dropping 1 to 2-inches every hour, isn't likely to be the last time we see significant snowfall this winter, but it does serve as a reminder to us all, that it's better to be ready for a storm ahead of time, than it is to be caught unprepared.
"I was born and raised here, so I'm ready for it." said Julie Lyons.
