While joblessness has dipped for most of the nation, the nations veterans unemployment rate is at ten percent, and it's at fifteen percent for women vets, according to the US Bureau of labor statistics.Women who have served in the military are less likely to have a job than their male counterparts.There are many factors as to why the unemployment rate for Vets is so high,one according to experts, is that some young vets have become dependent on the military structured environment and have difficulty adjusting to a civilian environment, Melanie Roach served in the Army national guard . She's been looking for a job for two years., She says, employers don't all the time recognize the skills that most service men and women have learned in the military. She says those skills, particularly leadership, would serve civilian employers well. Erik Wallin, the director of Operation Stand Down says it's important for employers to recognize what they have when considering veterans for employment. He's says some employers are coming around and are making a conscious effort to hire vets, He says, we still have a long way to go before we give our vets the support they need.
