Three children are recovering after being hit by debris from gun shots on Salmon Street Thursday night. Their family members say the violence is happening far too often.

"We heard the bullets," Myrlanda Theodore said. "But we didn't know where it came from."

Theodore was inside her home at the Manton Heights apartment complex when she heard the shots, not knowing that the debris from those bullets hit her two 14-year-old nieces and her 12-year-old nephew.

They were sitting on the stoop outside and had just moved in with Theodore yesterday, but she says it is already time to move out. A man was murdered on the same street just last month.

"I'm afraid because you just stand in front of the door and a bullet comes," Theodore said. "It's not fair."

Sal Monteiro of the Institute for Nonviolence says he hopes incidents like this will send a strong message to anyone thinking about picking up a gun.

"You have to remember you are affecting more people than just the people you are aiming your violence towards," Monteiro said. "And this is the result."

Police did find one of the bullets lodged in a closet. They are still searching for the shooter.
