Mayor Taveras and Commissioner Steven Pare got a chance to be firefighters for a day, putting on gear, walking on rooftops.
They also learned rescue techniques, going into a small building filled with smoke.
They even carried a person out of the building..Mayor Taveras says, he had no idea how tough a rescue can be.
Taveras says ,"I couldn't do it alone that's for sure an even doing it with two people it's hard".
Commissioner Steven Pare came out of the simulated smoking building,he could hardly catch his breath..Both Commissioner Pare and Mayor Taveras say they have a new appreciation for what Firefighters do.
