The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a missing tug boat master in the waters off Newport.
The 48-year old tug master was reported missing by his crew around 3PM.
After several hours of searching, the Coast Guard and the tugboat crew, still haven't found any traces of the missing captain.
The search is going on 8-miles out from shore, off of Rhode Island Sound.
The New York based tugboat Steven-Scott was headed to Boston, towing a barge with 45-thousand barrels of jet-fuel, when their master, who may not have been wearing a life-jacket, disappeared.
A search team including several boats from Rhode Island and the Coast Guard cutter Tiger Shark, are going over a wide search area, trying to find him.
"We exhaust every effort we have until there's really no hope left, and all the chances of survival are gone, and then we actually still search, after that." said Coast Guard Petty Officer Zachary Dara, whose involved in the search effort.
Now unless the tug master is found, the Coast Guard says that they will continue the search through the night, using search lights and other detection equipment on-board their big cutter, to try and find the missing captain.
