Adewale Adeni-Awosika stops by the EZ Laundry on West Friendship Street once a week, but Tuesday morning, he came out to find out his car and his child was gone, and it was all caught on tape.
Like every 2-year-old little boy, Adewale Jr. loves noises, especially music. It's why his dad says he left his son in the car and the keys in the ignition when he ran in to switch his laundry at the laundromat. As he was putting his clothes in the dryer, he saw his silver mini can start to move.
"I looked out and I saw my car going," Awoskia said. "And I started running after him but I could not make it."
The surveillance video tells the rest of the story. It shows someone walking down the sidewalk past the mini van, then the person loops back around, gets in the van and pulls away. Seconds later Awosika runs out.
15 panic filled minutes later, police found the car parked just down the street. The child was inside and unharmed.
"I never knew this kind of thing could happen here," Awosika said. "I'm still in a state of shock."
While the shock wears off, Awosika is grateful to still be able to play music for his son in the van, but he says it is something they will only do when they are together from now on.
"I shouldn't have left him but he was sleeping," Awosika said. "I will learn from this. Don't leave your child in the vehicle."
Awosika says he does not recognize the person in the surveillance video, and neither do any of the laundry attendants. So far no arrests have been made.
