Providence, R.I. -
Power has returned for Providence residents in the Smith Street area, after a 32-year-old female hit a utility pole near Frederick Street early Sunday morning.
Providence Police responded to the accident around 2:47 a.m. Sunday morning, shortly after the woman crashed her Ford Taurus into a tree and then into a utility pole, temporarily knocking out power.
Police say there were several passengers in the car, who fled the scene before police arrived.
Power was out for several hours, but was restored by morning, according to police.
The driver sustained injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
Police had no word on the woman's condition, but they say it's likely the passengers will be investigated for leaving the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
