R.I. Hospital Doctor Found with Cocaine, Charged with DUI

Posted: Updated:

A doctor at Rhode Island Hospital has been charged with DUI and possession of a controlled substance after Police stopped her for driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

Newport Police quickly discovered Kristin E. Ellison, 52, of Cranston was too intoxicated to drive. Police say Ellison was speaking with slurred speech and had trouble obeying the officer's commands.

Police administered a field-sobriety test, which Ellison failed. She refused to take a breath test, according to police.

Police say they also found three grams of white powder, which tested positive for cocaine.

Ellison was arrested and charged with DUI, refusal to submit to a chemical test, driving in possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a schedule II drug, a felony.

Police told ABC6 News that Ellison said she is a doctor at Rhode Island Hospital, when questioned about her occupation.

Ellison will appear in district court on February 18.
